A Fluidized Bed Furnace for ZRM ROLL

The beginning of KMT can be traced back to a business dedicated to hardening Tool Steel in 1980’s.

The beginning of KMT can be traced back to a business dedicated to hardening Tool Steel in 1980’s.
Mr.Lee,Kee-Jung, who majored in metal engineering at the university, decided to start a heat treatment company after going through several works.
At the beginning of KMT, it was a venture company that started with limited resources.
Due to the lack of funds, he made his own furnace for heat treatment of tool steel by himself utilizing scrap materials from a junk shop. Because KMT was a very small company which has just only 2 employees, Mr.Lee,Kee-Jung used to drive a truck for delivering items for himself.
Based on honesty and sincerity, KMT gradually built customer loyalty.
Although KMT had won fame as a heat treatment specialized company, KMT strived to find their own items using heat treatment technology to overcome limits to its growth.
The technology and know-how accumulated through heat treatment of Tool Steel was applied to a manufacturing of ZRM ROLL in 2000’s. The heat treatment technology is a core process to maintain the required hardness(HRc60~62) from a surface to the depths.
Although the heat treatment with Salt Bath was most effective In case of tool steel, the Salt Bath was not recently allowed to be set up because it causes a lot of environmental problems.
KMT decided to use a fluidized bed furnace for the heat treatment of ZRM ROLL to overcome this problem. This fluidized bed furnace was made on the advice of KIMS(Korea Institute of Material Science).
The heat treatment technology with a fluidized bed furnace can be classified to a fluidization technology to get uniform temperature distribution and a process technology to get required quality level.
For this characteristics, KMT is the only domestic ZRM Roll manufacturer capable of integrated production from procurement to completion.
